Flights to Ambon (AMQ)
All guests fly into Pattimura International Airport (AMQ) in Ambon, the capital of Indonesia's Maluku province. There are no direct flights from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore to Ambon — every route requires at least one connection, typically via Jakarta, Makassar or Denpasar.
Recommended Routings from KUL
Via Jakarta (CGK)
- Total Time~10h 5m
- Ambon Leg3h 25m
- FrequencyDaily
Most frequent option. Jakarta–Ambon is the longest non-stop leg to AMQ at ~1,483 miles. Best for travelers wanting flexibility in departure times.
Via Makassar (UPG)
- Total Time~9–11h
- Ambon Leg~1h 35m
- FrequencyDaily
Shorter final leg to Ambon. Makassar is a major eastern Indonesia hub and often has competitive fares. Good backup if Jakarta routes are full.
Via Denpasar (DPS)
- Total Time~11–14h
- Ambon Leg~2h 30m
- FrequencyLimited
Often the cheapest option when booked early. Longer layovers common — some travelers enjoy a Bali stopover before/after the trip.
Recommended Routings from SIN
Via Jakarta (CGK)
- Total Time~7h 23m–7h 50m
- Ambon Leg3h 25m
- FrequencyUp to 5× Daily
Fastest and most frequent option from Singapore. Batik Air and Garuda Indonesia each offer 40+ connecting flights per week via Jakarta. Shortest total journey time of all KUL/SIN routings.
Via Makassar (UPG)
- Total Time~8–10h
- Ambon Leg~1h 35m
- FrequencySeveral/week
Shorter final leg. Makassar is the gateway to eastern Indonesia and often has good fares. Useful if Jakarta connections don't align with your schedule.
Via Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
- Total Time~12–15h
- Stops2
- FrequencyDaily
Double-stop option often used when budget carriers offer significantly lower fares. Not the fastest, but can be the most economical with early booking.
Suggested Travel Schedule
Depart Kuala Lumpur
We recommend flying one day before embarkation to avoid same-day transit risk. Overnight in Jakarta, Makassar, or Ambon.
Arrive Ambon · Embark
Arrive at Pattimura Airport (AMQ). TDB transfer to the harbour, welcome briefing, and board your liveaboard. First night onboard.
22 Dives · Banda Sea & Maluku
Six full days of diving across Indonesia's most remote reefs — hammerheads, mantas, and pristine coral walls. All meals, tips, beer and marine park fees included.
Disembark · Return Home
Morning disembarkation at Ambon. Do not book return flights before 14:00 to allow for transfers and customs. Minimum 18-hour no-fly window after your last dive.
No-Fly After Diving
Minimum 18 hours between your last dive and departure flight. Plan return flights accordingly.
Visa on Arrival
Malaysian passport holders get visa-free entry to Indonesia for up to 30 days. Passport must be valid for 6+ months. Submit Indonesia Arrival Card →
Baggage Allowance
Domestic Indonesian carriers typically allow 20kg checked + 7kg cabin. Dive gear often counts toward this — check with TDB for sports equipment waivers.
Book Early
September is peak season in eastern Indonesia. We recommend booking flights 3–4 months in advance for the best fares.
